Villa Apina is located at the highest point in Carilo: a sand dune called Pan de Azucar, created by men on the basis of a challenge.

The challenge consisted on making the dune grow from 5 meters to 19 (actual height).

The task took 8 years, opposing branch barriers to the wind so that the sand accumulated making the dune higher in a way that when it was forested it acquired the beautiful and picturesque aspect it shows nowadays.
